Girona Manager Michel Sanchez has not held back in praising his young loanee talent Savio Moreira, comparing to arguably the best dribbler Brazil has at this point in time.
The Blanquivermells are in fine fettle this season, and top the La Liga table after 7 matches. In no small part down to Savio, who arrived as an unknown 19-year-old on loan from Troyes. After a mixed debut, Savio has quickly become one of the most feared forwards in the division.
Michel told Cadena SER that he had been on their radar for some time.
“The sporting department had already been following him since the last under-20 World Cup. The images we had of him are very good. He had not been successful at PSV and he was not happy. We saw him at the World Cup because we followed him and we had the feeling that he could help us.”
“I know they are big words, but since the emergence of Vinicius I don’t think I havet seen a one-on-one talent as destabilising as him.”
On Saturday evening, Girona face Real Madrid in a top of the table clash, knowing that whomever takes three points will end the weekend top.
“We know that we are going to suffer and that Madrid are the very clear favourite. They are a very strong team with players with an incredible career. We want to dream and make our fans proud of us.”
Michel and Girona have had praise heaped on them this season, having won 6 of their opening 7 matches. Many thought they might take a step back this season, having lost several of their key players from the last campaign. However in this form, they will be a problem for any side.
