The free agents that Barcelona could sign next summer: World Cup winner, Manchester United star on the list

Over the last couple of summers, Barcelona have been very active in the free agent market. They signed Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie on pre-contracts in 2022, and did so with Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez this summer.

The club’s precarious financial situation has forced Barcelona into looking at free transfers more than usual, but it is a strategy that has been effective so far. As such, club officials will surely look to utilise the market again next summer.

MD have detailed a list of 20 players that are out of contract at the end of this season, some of which Barcelona could look to sign.

In terms of goalkeepers, Alex Meret – who is Napoli’s starting goalkeeper – is an option, although it is highly probable that the Serie A champions look to secure a renewal for the 26-year-old in the coming months. Besides, keeper is not an area that Barcelona immediately need to strengthen in.

Lukas Klostermann and Leandro Spinazzola are defensive options that Barcelona could look to utilise. The former can provide depth all across the backline, while the latter is primarily a left-back.

Barcelona are reportedly looking to sign another pivot, and there are a fee names on this list that could do the job. Guido Rodriguez – who won the World Cup with Argentina last year – has already been linked, while Wilfred Ndidi, Tomas Soucek and Jorginho could also be options to look at. La Masia graduate Thiago Alcantara is out of contract at Liverpool next summer, and may make a return to Catalonia in 2024.

Nico Williams would be an excellent addition for Barcelona, although despite interest from multiple clubs across Europe, the 21-year-old is expected to sign a new contract with Athletic Club before January.

More forward options include Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and Sevilla duo Lucas Ocampos and Erik Lamela. Kylian Mbappe is also listed, although he is far more likely to join Barcelona’s El Clasico rivals, Real Madrid.
