“I’m a Real Sociedad player” – Takefusa Kubo shuts down rumours of possible return to Real Madrid

Last weekend, Real Sociedad qualified for the Champions League for the first time in over a decade, securing a fourth place finish after Villarreal lost to Rayo Vallecano.

It has been a fantastic season for La Real, who have had several players step up across the course of the campaign. One of those has been Takefusa Kubo, who joined the club from Real Madrid last summer.

Kubo has been in sparking form, especially over the last few months. Speaking to Diario AS, the Japanese forward analysed why he has played so well this season.

“(I am putting up) very good numbers. Coming from where I was in other seasons, where I wasn’t doing so well, things are going much better this year, which I am happy about.

“One of the reasons (for this) is the collective game of La Real. It is very attractive for the fans and very effective for the players. I can’t remember any game where I haven’t had an opportunity, and I’m taking advantage of the ones that have come my way.”

Kubo has been linked with a return to Real Madrid over the last few months, although he was quick to quash any possibility of him leaving San Sebastian this summer.

“Right now I’m a Real Sociedad player, so (a return to Real Madrid) is closed. In the future, I don’t know. In ten years, I can be at Real Madrid Madrid, or still here, or go somewhere else.”

If Kubo keeps progressing the way he has been, Real Sociedad may find it difficult keep hold over the next few years, although there appears to be little chance of him leaving this summer, at least.
