Jorge Mendes handling five separate cases with Barcelona

Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes is constant part of the transfer window for any elite club, but the relationship between Barcelona and Mendes has been close for some time. Their dealings with him will likely have major repercussions for their summer and beyond.

Two of the Blaugrana’s brightest stars are currently in negotiations with the club, in the case of Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal. The former has a deal until 2024, with Barcelona keen to tie down their starting left-back. Yamal, 15 and considered La Masia’s best talent, will turn 16 in the summer. Barcelona want to have a deal in place to ensure he is not poached by other clubs.

They will be hoping the only sale they make with Mendes is Ansu Fati. Barcelona have given Mendes permission to look for a new club for Fati, and he will be allowed to leave if a good offer is found.

Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo looks as if he will be available this summer too, and Mendes is keen to find him a home. Barcelona may look to bring him in on loan as a temporary solution to their right-back issues, as per Sport.

Finally, Mendes continues to insist on Ruben Neves. The Wolves midfielder has been touted as an option for Barcelona for many years, something Joan Laporta is open to, but Xavi Hernandez has so far rejected.

Mendes’ is capable of making deals happen as favours to clubs, but the question for Barcelona will be when it comes time to pay off those favours. Neves could well be a compromise the club see as necessary.
