Barcelona concerned by Sergino Dest situation as right-back is given permission to leave for USA

Barcelona are somewhat concerned by the season that Sergino Dest is having at Milan, with the young right-back seemingly no longer considered part of the Rossoneri squad.

Dest was out of favour last season at Barcelona under Xavi Hernandez, but never to the same extent as under Stefano Pioli at San Siro. Dest has not played since the 24th of January and is no longer even in the squads, the last time he made the bench being the start of March.

As per MD, Barcelona are trying to gather information on Dest’s situation, with the player being given permission to leave the Milan squad at a crucial phase of the season. He will travel back to the USA in order to play in a friendly against Mexico on the 19th of April in Arizona. As it is outwith the official FIFA dates, clubs are not required to release players, but it appears Pioli has no issue with it.

Certainly it is a worrying development for Barcelona that both of his last two managers were keen to move him on. Dest has not played regular football since Ronald Koeman left Barcelona in 2021.

They will have to try and make a case on the market to sell him for some kind of value. Recently, there were reports they may include him in a swap deal, but rarely do those deals come off. Dest, at 22, is seeing his career stall.
