New funding proposal revealed for €1.5bn Espai Barca project – Barcelona to make decision on Friday

Espai Barca has been in the pipeline for a couple of years now, ever since plans were approved in 2021, but it will soon become a reality, with work set to begin later this year.

Despite this, Barcelona are yet to secure investment for the project. However, that appears to have taken a step forward on Tuesday, despite reports that the club may not reach an agreement by Friday.

According to Cadena SER, a new funding proposal has been put forward for the project, which will see its overall cost reach €1.5bn. The breakdown will see €1bn funded by investors, while the remaining €500m will be a bank loan from Goldman Sachs, which would be repaid over the next five years at 6% interest.

The investors’ funds will be split into two, with €500m from investors being paid back in the medium term at 5% interest, while the other €500m will be repaid over the next 25 years, also at 5% interest.

There is an alternative on the table from Key Capital, and Barcelona board members are expected to vote on Friday in order to decide which proposal to proceed with.
