Real Betis receive positive news on star midfielder after fitness scare

Real Betis fans will be breathing a sigh of relief at the news that Sergio Canales’ injury is not expected to keep him out long-term.

The Cantabrian playmaker gave a brilliant, cutting assist for Juanmi against Real Valladolid last weekend, but stayed on the bench after half-time, having felt discomfort.

According to ABC (via Estadio Deportivo), Canales is not expected to miss significant time. He has been ruled out of the match against Elche this Friday, but is expected to be back after that following a specific recovery plan.

The following fixture is on the 5th of March against Real Madrid, but failing that, he would be available for the first leg of their Europa League Round of 16 tie.

Canales is arguably Betis‘ most instrumental player, and as they approach a key juncture in the season, for his injury to potentially cost him only the tie against bottom side Elche can be considered fortunate on the whole, as far as injuries go.
