Cristiano Ronaldo is returning to Manchester United according to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive column for Caught Offside. The Portuguese still wants to leave the club for pastures new, however, and Jorge Mendes is working on making that happen.
Erik ten Hag wants to keep him, however, and United don’t even have an asking price in mind for their 37-year-old forward. They still consider him to be fundamental to Ten Hag’s project at Old Trafford. It’s not money that’s important to Cristiano at this stage of his career – he wants to join a club capable of helping him win a sixth European Cup to draw him level with Paco Gento.
United can’t offer him that. They finished sixth in the Premier League last season by the skin of their teeth and will be competing in the Europa League in 2022/23. That’s a competition Cristiano has never graced – and never intends to.
