Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier reveals whether he wants Neymar Junior to stay

Paris Saint-Germain dismissed Mauricio Pochettino this morning and swiftly appointed Christophe Galtier as his replacement. One of the first things Galtier was asked during his presentation press conference was whether Neymar Junior had a future at the club.

Galtier confirmed that Neymar would be staying – that he believed the Brazilian was a world-class player and that every coach wants to work with footballers of his calibre. The former Nice coach revealed that he already has a clear plan about how to use him.

“I want Neymar to stay here with us,” Galtier said in comments carried by Fabrizio Romano. “He’s a world-class player and all the coaches in the world want top-class players like him. I already have clear ideas on my plan for Neymar here at PSG.”

Speculation has been rife in recent weeks that the 30-year-old Brazilian could leave the Parc des Princes this close-season amid a wide-ranging shake-up. The thought process was that there wasn’t enough space in town for himself, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. But it seems that Galtier has thought it through.

Neymar joined PSG in the summer of 2017 for €222m from Barcelona but has failed to live up to the expectations that had been attached to his arrival. PSG have won four of five Ligue 1 titles since but failed where it mattered – the Champions League.
