Girona have expressed an interest in Barcelona centre-back Oscar Mingueza according to Diario Sport. Quique Carcel, the Catalan club’s sporting director, is understood to be the driving force behind the potential move. Mingueza is up for sale at Barcelona.
Xavi Hernandez doesn’t need Mingueza in his squad for the 2022/23 campaign and has given the Catalan youngster permission to not attend their pre-season training camp and instead work to resolve his future. Mingueza hardly featured under Xavi last year having been surpassed in the pecking order by Ronald Araujo, Gerard Pique, Eric Garcia and Clement Lenglet.
Girona aren’t the only club interested in Mingueza. Also in the picture are Monza, who’ve recently been promoted to Serie A, as well as La Liga clubs Getafe, Mallorca and Valencia. One thing that’s seemingly for sure, however, is that it appears his days at Camp Nou are numbered and he’s bound for pastures new.
