Should Barcelona keep Memphis Depay or sell him this summer?

Barcelona beat Mallorca 2-1 at Camp Nou on Sunday evening.

It was an important result given how poor their form had been in recent weeks. Memphis Depay opened the scoring in the 25th minute before Sergio Busquets doubled their lead in the 54th.

Antonio Jose Raillo Arenas’ 79th minute strike was a consolation.

Memphis’ performance, according to Marca, was impressive. The Dutchman’s future is uncertain but he was excellent coming in from the left side against the side from the Balearic Islands.

It’s clear Memphis isn’t the man who’s going to lead Barcelona into a new era – he just isn’t that good. There’s no doubt he’s a talented and capable striker but he doesn’t perform in the biggest games against the toughest teams.

Memphis’ record this season isn’t bad. The 28-year-old forward, who joined from Lyon in the summer transfer market, has registered 12 goals and four assists in all competitions this year.

He’s valued at €45m by Transfermarkt and could conceivably be sold this summer – he has a market and will be entering the final year of his contract at Camp Nou.

Should La Blaugrana cash in on the striker this close-season or renew him to retain him as a key member of the squad? That’s the decision the leadership of the club need to take soon.
