With Erling Haaland seemingly on his way to Manchester City, many had assumed that Kylian Mbappe would be signing with Real Madrid this summer. Yet it would be far too simple for the two biggest transfer stories of the year to be wrapped up before the end of April.
Last night Paris Saint-Germain won their tenth Ligue 1 title, with a goal from Lionel Messi securing a 1-1 draw with RC Lens. All the same, things in Paris are far from rosy, with many fans leaving the stadium to celebrate the title away from the players.
Speaking to the media after the match, rather than the title it was the future of the players and the manager that dominated the press questions for Sporting Director Leonardo. None more so than Kylian Mbappe.
“In Madrid they have been sure that he will end up at Real Madrid… Maybe they are too sure of it? [laughs].”
Diario AS covered his comments, with Leonardo of the firm belief that everything was still on the table for the French striker.
“Mbappe? The discussion have always been there. There were discussions in Doha.”
“Kylian talks, he talks with us. What he says is the truth. He still hasn’t decided. I think that the possibility of him staying exists. The possibility of him going exists too, but I think that he is still reflecting, he is seeing that things change…”
The player himself was also asked about his future, with the striker giving little away – “My final decision? Nothing has changed, so I have nothing to say about it.”
