Barcelona appoint inexperienced director of scouting Paulo Araujo

Joan Laporta has been trying to clean house to a certain extent since arriving as President just over a year ago and his latest conquest is the scouting the department.

It was announced last week that Paulo Araujo would be taking charge of the scouting department, which as Sport point out is facing cutbacks this summer. Araujo will be in charge of five permanent scouts at the club, which cover different age groups and geographical territories.

Some have called into question whether Araujo is qualified for the position. Culemania reported on the fact that Araujo took an introductory course to scouting in 2021, as can be seen on his LinkedIn.

It’s also worth noting that Araujo has only had one other scouting position previously, spending three seasons with Burnley in the Premier League where he was covering the Americas.

More of his career has been dedicated to marketing where he worked for Umbro and Adidas. It’s thought that his relationship with Deco, former player and now agent, has helped him get his foot in the door.
