Xavi did not expect Barcelona’s El Clasico dominance

Barcelona boss Xavi has admitted he was left shocked by their dominant 4-0 El Clasico win over Real Madrid.

The Catalan giants turned in an incredible performance in the Spanish capital to spectacularly break their their five game La Liga losing streak against Los Blancos.

The visitors marched into a deserved 2-0 lead before the break thanks to goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Uruguayan star Ronald Araujo.

However, there was no let up from Barcelona in the second half, as they recorded their biggest El Clasico win since 2018, with Aubameyang and Ferran Torres making it 4-0 on the night.

“We had the game under control all night. The players are like a family”, as per reports from Marca.

“I’m proud and happy and Barcelona fans should enjoy it. We’ve shown ourselves that we can compete with anyone.

“We have been much more superior, in both goals and in the game. We leave here smiling from ear to ear.”

However, despite the positivity of a huge win in Madrid, Xavi admitted his side are unlikely to have enough time left to mount a league title challenge in the coming weeks.

Up next for Xavi’s in form side is a home tie with Top Four rivals Sevilla after the international break as leaders Real Madrid head to Celta Vigo.
