Trincao struggling to find starting place at Wolves

On-loan Barcelona winger Francisco Trincao is struggling to establish himself as a starter at Wolves.

The Portuguese, who joined Barcelona two summers ago, spent a singular season at the club before being loaned out to Wolves. The midlands club have an optional purchase clause for €30m, but must pay a penalty of €6m if they do not do so.

Trincao has started just one of Wolves’ last five matches under compatriot Bruno Lage. Speaking to SkySports, Trincao declared he was unhappy playing a squad role for Wolves.

“I’m doing my best for the coach to think that [I should play more]. It’s his decision, I have to respect it. Of course, I think I deserve more and I’m trying to do that and show that every day.”

“If you just look for the end product, maybe you can say that [we haven’t seen the best of me]. But if you look at football in terms of the whole game, you can say I’m doing great things.”

Having played with an array of stars, in particular for Portugal Barcelona, Trincao was naturally asked about playing with both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

“It’s really good to watch them play and I try to learn the maximum I can. They work a lot, people don’t know how hard they work. It’s the main thing that I learn from them.”

On Lionel Messi, who often played in Trincao’s favoured right-wing spot, he had this to say.

“He was always giving me advice in my position. To wait for the ball, to press here and the things I need to do in order to pass him the ball. The little things that you learn in football.

“He knows the game better than anyone and I’ll listen to him and I’m trying to do the things I told him.”

Barcelona brought in Wolves winger Adama Traore in the winter window, who they also have an option to buy. According to SPORT, that may depend on whether Wolves exercise their option on Trincao.
