Sergino Dest would consider leaving Barcelona for Roma

Barcelona defender Sergino Dest would consider leaving the club to go to Italy, as per Corriere dello Sport.

Since Xavi Hernandez arrived at the club, the USA international has struggled to lock down a place in the starting line-up. Dest was plagued with injury issues during the latter part of 2021, which may have contributed to his lack of minutes.

Veteran Dani Alves arrived in January and started most of the domestic fixtures he was available for in the first instance, but was left out of the Europa League squad. There, Dest was given an opportunity and put together a decent run of form in February.

Until Barcelona’s match against Elche last weekend, Dest had completed 90 minutes in five of the six previous matches, winning plaudits along the way. However Dest is keen to ensure his career doesn’t stagnate and a move to Roma may be further guarantee of starting minutes.

This news comes in the context of reports that Barcelona are looking to extend the contract of Dani Alves for next season and potentially bring in former Ajax teammate Noussair Mazraoui on a free in the summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.
