Joan Laporta cools rumours on Erling Haaland transfer

Barcelona President Joan Laporta has cooled talk of a potential move for Norwegian prodigy Erling Braut Haaland.

Laporta was present at the Estadi Johan Cruyff as Barcelona Femeni sealed the league title with a 5-0 victory over Real Madrid. With a record crowd in attendance, it was a party atmosphere for the Blaugrana.

The cameras of TV3 found Laporta and managed to extract a few words from the President, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

“We are strengthening the squad for the coming season. Mateu Alemany, Jordi Cruyff and the whole technical team are working to do so. I understand that there are signings that excite people but they are difficult operations that we shouldn’t carry out even in the best of economic situations.”

Despite often trying to grow the excitement around Barcelona and stating that Barcelona are ‘back’ in January, Laporta was a voice of caution today.

“We must apply a criteria and a certain rationality to the world of football. We are here to manage a club well, Barcelona, and even though we have improved the economic situation it hasn’t been turned around completely.”

“This is the priority along with putting together a more powerful team as we go. We will do everything we can but we will not approve any operation that puts the club at risk.”

Erling Haaland has long been linked with Barcelona, but recent reports place Barcelona behind Manchester City in the race for his signature.
