Real Madrid close on Luka Modric contract extension

Real Madrid are rumoured to be edging closer to agreeing a contract extension with key midfielder Luka Modric.

The 36-year-old has gained cult status during his time in Madrid with an ever present role in the Los Blancos engine room during the last decade.

Despite moving into the final years of his playing career, the Croatian schemer has remained as a crucial player in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans this season, with 19 La Liga starts in 2021/22.

He rolled back the years in Real Madrid’s Champions League fightback against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek but his future is yet to be decided.

After signing a one-year extension at the start of the current campaign, talks have been ongoing over another 12-month deal, with an update expected in the coming weeks.

As per reports from Marca, Real Madrid are potentially taking for granted that he will renew in the Spanish capital, but the agreement will not be as straightforward as it was 12 months ago.

  1. An unbelievable player. I mean, I can’t believe he is as good as he is at this age. A pleasure to watch.
