Kylian Mbappe was injured by Idrissa Gueye during Paris Saint-Germain’s training session on Monday morning. We know this because images have emerged of the incident; the Senegalese midfielder is seen catching Mbappe’s foot awkwardly.
The news is a blow as PSG are just one day away from facing Real Madrid in the last 16 second leg of the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu. Many in France, report Diario AS, are questioning why PSG allowed the images to be broadcast.
It puts a spotlight on Gueye, who’s already been receiving threats and insults for injuring PSG’s star player. It also gives hope to Madrid and shows exactly where they can target Mbappe should they be so inclined. They know his weak spot.
Because Mbappe’s importance can’t be overstated. He scored the decisive goal in the first leg at the Parc des Princes and was the most dangerous player throughout the tie. It’s expected that he’ll push himself to start no matter what but he won’t be 100%.
