Xavi Hernandez has given Riqui Puig less game-time at Barcelona than Quique Setien or Ronald Koeman

Riqui Puig has played less football under Xavi Hernandez than either Quique Setien or Ronald Koeman according to Diario Sport. Xavi’s arrival was thought to be the catalyst Puig needed to break into the first team at Camp Nou but the opposite has occurred.

Xavi has now led Barcelona in 20 matches but he’s hardly given the youngster a look in. It was Ernesto Valverde who gave him his debut in the Copa del Rey and in total Riqui played three matches under him, featuring for 192 minutes and providing one assist.

Quique Setien was next to take over at Barcelona and he was the coach who gave undoubtedly Puig the most prominence, playing him in 12 matches for a total of 578 minutes. He provided two assists during this timeframe.

Ronald Koeman coached Barcelona for over double the number of games of Setien. He played Riqui in 28 games for a total of 743 minutes, a period in which the midfielder registered one goal. Even though he featured for the most minutes under Koeman his average was lower than under Setien.

Sergi Barjuan took over briefly after Koeman was sacked. He played Riqui in two matches for a combined total of 51 minutes. Since Xavi has taken over at Camp Nou he’s played Riqui in seven matches combining a total of 300 minutes, numbers that suggest the 22-year-old’s Barcelona career could be coming to an end.

  1. Give Riqui Puig, time as well Barcelona should have more players like old times. How can he improve if you don’t give time to show off in the pitch in front of the fan’s his a better player like others in the locker room not on using two young Star always build a time for future not at now we like him as we and we want him to have time . I remember the fan’s started yelling at Ronald CM for giving him time. Time is needed for him to improve and show his best he can get from the coach.
