Atletico Madrid suffer yet another key injury blow ahead of crunch Real Betis clash

Atletico Madrid have suffered yet another injury blow amid difficulties in the treatment room of late.

Los Rojiblancos have picked up recently, winning both of their last two La Liga outings and putting on a largely impressive display against Manchester United in the Champions League.

The upturn in form was much needed after a stretch of disappointing results, contributing to an already disappointing campaign for Diego Simeone and his men.

Though, some of Atleti’s recent outings have taken their toll, and they were already headed into this weekend’s tricky away clash with top four rivals Real Betis with as many as five injuries.

Geoffrey Kondogbia, Stefan Savic (also suspended), Daniel Wass and Matheus Cunha are all injured.

Meanwhile, Koke is a doubt and there is now a sixth injury and a sixth guaranteed absentee for this weekend’s clash.

Centre-back Mario Hermoso has been ruled out with an adductor injury in his right leg, and he could miss at least two games.

That’s another big blow for Simeone, who is without two key centre-backs, as well as Kondogbia, who has filled in in that position in the past.

Far from ideal ahead of a key game in the race for top four, and indeed with the second leg against Manchester United fast approaching, on March 15.
