Villarreal midfielder Etienne Capoue has revealed that he doesn’t ever watch football. For him, his energies are centred purely on playing the game. When he returns home at the end of the working day all he wants to do is spend time with his family.
“I didn’t support any football team when I was a kid,” Capoue said to The Athletic. “I didn’t watch football and I still don’t, not even one game a year. I don’t know who the players are until my coaches tell me. I think that’s enough for me to know.

“I don’t like watching football, I don’t know why, but I’m not into it. If I start watching it, then my whole life will be football and I don’t want that. I want to go home and be happy with my family and watch kids’ movies with my children. They are the people I care about and they care about me because, remember, after football you are nobody.”
Hoy no ha podido ser, pero una vez más, groguets, habéis demostrado que sois una afición de 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨.

Capoue, 33, joined Villarreal last January and has become a key performer in Unai Emery’s midfield. He joined from Watford, after a six-year spell at Vicarage Road. Before that he spent two seasons across London with Tottenham Hotspur and five years back home in France with Toulouse, the club he broke through at.
Capoue played the full 90 minutes on Tuesday evening as Villarreal suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United at La Ceramica in the Champions League. United struck twice in the final 12 minutes through Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho to ensure that second-placed Villarreal will need to avoid losing to third-placed Atalanta on the final day of the season to progress to the last 16 of the competition.
