Diego Simeone explains handshake saga as Vinicius makes easy work of Shakhtar Donetsk

Here are your Spanish football headlines for Wednesday, October 20.

Simeone explains handshake

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone was heavily criticised after his side’s defeat to Liverpool for not shaking Jurgen Klopp‘s hand at full-time.

As he always does, Simeone ran off down the tunnel after the full-time whistle, and that did not go down well with the British media, in particular.

After the game, Simeone said: “I don’t always greet the other coach after the game because I don’t like it.

“It’s not healthy for either the winner or the loser. I think of it that way. But now, when I see him, I’ll greet him without a problem.”

Klopp talks Atleti

Jurgen Klopp, who has been one of Atletico Madrid’s biggest critics, has spoken about the style of play Diego Simeone employs following Liverpool‘s 3-2 win over Los Rojiblancos.

“It’s a style of play. There are things I like and others less,” he said after the game.

“But I really respect what they do. I couldn’t do it. I’m not the same person as Diego.

“I couldn’t play that way, but he has had 10 years here with incredible successes.

“He doesn’t play the football that I like, but they like it and I respect it a lot.”

Vinicius shines again

Vinicius Junior put in another excellent performance for Real Madrid in their comfortable 5-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Brazilian scored twice, and his second goal was a work of art, dancing through the Shakhtar defence before dinking home.

Vinicius is in fine form, and what better time ahead of this weekend’s Clásico.
