Messi granted extended break
Barcelona returned to training on Sunday but were without star player Lionel Messi, who has been afforded an extra-long Christmas break.
The Argentine star will therefore sit out this week’s La Liga clash against Eibar (29 December) due to being given an extended break, which is hoped to give him sufficient rest to enjoy a run of first-team games when he returns, as per Diario AS.
Messi is currently at home in Rosario, having been granted permission to leave for his home nation after last week’s win over Valladolid.
Modric to pen new Madrid contract
Real Madrid midfield maestro Luka Modric will pen a one-year contract extension at the club to see him through to the summer of 2022, say Marca.
The Croatian’s current deal at the Camp Nou had been set to expire this summer and he would theoretically be free to speak to other clubs from January 1, but he is now extending his stay in the Spanish capital.
Wolves join race for Jovic
Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers are the latest to join the race for signing Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic.
Diario AS cite a report from Sky Sports outlining the news and claiming that the Spanish champions would be open to selling the Serbian striker in 2021.
