Real Madrid want Modric as mentor for next midfield star

Real Madrid are said to have agreed a one-year contract extension with midfielder Luka Modric and Diario AS say that the club can see his influential not just on the pitch but off it too.

It is said that Los Blancos believe the Croatian can act as a mentor for their upcoming midfield star Martin Odegaard and help his progression into a key player for the team.

Odegaard’s return to Madrid following a season on loan at Real Sociedad was confirmed back in August and the Norwegian is now being integrated into the first-team squad.

Real Madrid news in the coming months is likely to be defined by Odegaard’s potential impact, but it remains unclear how regularly he will feature in the starting line-up, but a rotation is likely with Modric – for whom he is viewed as the long-term successor.

Odegaard started the first two La Liga games of the season against Real Sociedad and Betis for Madrid but has suffered various muscular injuries since to derail his progress.

It is said that Modric’s continuation at the club will see him pass off his knowledge to the Norwegian and help his assimilation into the squad.
