Barcelona and Riqui Puig at loggerheads over his short-term future

Barcelona had planned to move Riqui Puig on this January transfer market according to Diario Sport, preferably in the form of a loan deal that would prevent his development being curtailed.

The Blaugrana are said to have received offers from all over Europe for the youngster, who’s out in the cold regarding Ronald Koeman‘s first team at the moment.

Puig, however, is said to rather stay at Barcelona despite the prospect of him earning very few minutes between now and season’s end.

Koeman is said to be willing to allow Puig to continue until June if that’s his decision but would prefer that he accepts a loan move to somewhere where he can play more and prevent his development being curtailed.

Koeman already spoke with Puig during this past summer to make it clear that he’d have very few minutes and he’s remained true to his world despite his trust in other youngsters like Pedri, Ronald Araujo, Ansu Fati and Oscar Mingueza.

The coaching staff have been clear in their message to Puig but the midfielder is said to be insisting on staying put at Barcelona even if all he’s doing is training.

His mind is said to be made up, although Barcelona are planning on meeting with him once more to try and change his mind and get him to accept a loan.
