Junior Firpo ready to step in for injured Jordi Alba

Barcelona defender Junior Firpo is confident he can provide much needed cover for injured team mate Jordi Alba in the coming weeks.

Alba was taken off after 22 minutes in La Blaugrana’s 2-1 La Liga win at home to Getafe, with a thigh injury.

Manager Quique Setien confirmed in his press conference that the Spanish international will undergo further tests in the coming days to assess the extent of the problem.

He is likely to miss the Champions League last 16 tie with Napoli in ten days time, and next weekend’s clash with Eibar.

However, Firpo, who replaced Alba, against Jose Bordalas’ side is ready to come into the side if needed.

“I do not know how long Alba will be out, as he is still being assessed,” he told a post match interview with Marca.

“But I am ready for the games that are coming up, and it will be a big month for the club.”

“The more games I play, I will be more confident, but I want to make the most of any opportunity.”

Firpo also stated that he is enjoying working under his former boss Setien, following his arrival at the club last month.

The full back started against his former side Real Betis last weekend, and will be first choice to replace Alba.
