Espanyol are hopeful on a deal to sign former Brazil international Hulk on loan until the end of the season, report Diario Sport.
Now aged 33, the forward netted 17 goals in 37 appearances for Shanghai SIPG last season but the season in the Chinese Super League is now at a close.
Espanyol’s Chinese owner Chen Yansheng is said to have excellent relations with the Shanghai club and will try to smooth out a deal for the player.
However, it is said that for such a deal to take place, the Chinese club must also pay a portion of the former FC Porto’s player wage packet as the Catalan club would struggle to afford the player economically.
It is claimed by the report that Los Pericos, who are at the foot of the table in La Liga, will aim to make four signings in the January window in an attempt to stave off relegation.
Espanyol have sacked boss Pablo Machin and are now on the lookout for their third manager of the campaign.
