Diego Maradona linked to Elche job

Spanish second division side Elche have been linked to appointing Argentine football legend Diego Maradona as their new boss.

A report in Marca cites the influential Argentine Christian Bragarnik as being close to a takeover of the Spanish club and he could bring Maradona – currently at the helm of Argentine side Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata – with him.

The report adds that such a move would be full of complications but as things stand it is possible and say that the situation is a very fluid one that could move quickly.

Earlier this week, Maradona said he would continue at the Argentine side until the end of the year at least, should current president Gabriel Pellegrino remain.

However, it is said that Elche have the capability to make a much more tempting economic offer to what Maradona currently has while the sporting project would also be more attractive.

Maradona had playing stints in Spain with both Barcelona and Sevilla, while Elche are currently managed by Pacheta.
