Jose Mourinho ‘loved’ spell at Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho has revealed he ‘loved’ his three years at the helm of Real Madrid: “It was an amazing time for me.”

The Portuguese boss managed Los Blancos between 2010 and 2013, with the highlight of his tenure being the 2012 La Liga title.

Mourinho managed Madrid to 128 victories in his 178 matches at the helm while he also won the Copa del Rey in 2011 and the Spain Supercopa the following year.

The Portuguese boss was appointed at Tottenham earlier this week after 11 months out of the game, having been dismissed from Manchester United last summer.

He has worked as a TV pundit across several TV companies since and has been linked with a variety of clubs but has now replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs.

“If you want to call my friends at Real Madrid, yeah I speak with them many times,” Mourinho told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.

“I have so many friends there, the president is the first one – he loves me and I love him, we are very close friends and we speak a lot and exchange text messages.

“We always wish each other happy birthdays, a merry Christmas, good luck in big games and so on.

“I loved my period at Real Madrid, as you know we did many amazing things and of course we had problems and frustrations, but it was an amazing time for me.”

A report in Diario AS claims one of Mourinho’s first moves at Spurs could be to move for out-of-favour Tottenham forward Gareth Bale.
