Atletico Madrid: Diego Costa undergoes operation, faces three months out

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa will undergo an operation on his herniated disc tomorrow and faces three months out, report Marca.

The former Spain international has been unable to feature in recent training sessions for Los Rojiblancos due to back discomfort and subsequently underwent a scan, which showed he needs to be operated on due to the extent of the injury.

The Brazil-born striker has netted just seven La Liga goals in 42 appearances since his return to the club from Chelsea in January 2018 but has started eight league games this campaign.

It will not be until early next week that the exact path of Costa’s recovery will be decided, adds the report, but it is likely that he will be out of action until February at the earliest.

There had been fears that the striker could miss the remainder of the season but the expectations now are that he will be back for the final three months.
