Barcelona suffer fresh Jordi Alba injury setback

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba is expected to be unavailable for several weeks after suffering a fresh thigh injury.

The Spain international had to be replaced by Sergi Roberto during Tuesday night’s scoreless draw against Slavia Prague and the Blaugrana have now confirmed the injury.

“Jordi Alba has had a relapse of the left biceps femoris muscle injury. He is injured and his evolution will define his availability,” read a club statement.

It is a similar injury to the one the former Valencia full-back sustained in the 0-0 draw at Borussia Dortmund in September, which sidelined him from first-team action for a total of three weeks.

Indeed, he was replaced against Real Valladolid a week ago due to playing with noted discomfort before being left out of the weekend defeat at Levante.

It is anticipated that this injury will give a chance to Junior Firpo – who was signed from Real Betis this summer for an initial €18m – although he has been left out entirely of recent matchday squads.
