Luis Suarez to miss international duty with Uruguay

Luis Suarez will sit out international duty with Uruguay next week, to stay in Barcelona and work on his fitness.

The veteran striker has missed half of Barcelona’s early season schedule due to injury, and the club have confirmed an agreement with the Uruguayan FA to allow him to miss the friendly games against Peru.

Suarez netted in Barcelona’s last two games, against Getafe and Inter Milan, and he is expected to lead the line in La Blaugrana’s clash against Sevilla.

Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi are both set for late fitness tests ahead of the visit of Julen Lopetegui’s side, with left back Jordi Alba and Junior Firpo ruled out, with Samuel Umtiti side lined until November.

Following the game at the Camp Nou, Suarez will undergo a period of rehabilitation as he looks to improve his stamina to play the remainder of the season.

La Liga will be represented in Oscar Tabarez’s squad by Ateltico Madrid centre back Jose Gimenez and Federico Valverde of Real Madrid, as well as Girona striker Cristhian Stuani.
