Barcelona are set to be without star forward Lionel Messi for their weekend trip to Getafe with a calf injury, according to reports.
Messi started against Villarreal – his first start of the campaign – after struggling with a calf problem during pre-season.
ESPN FC now say the 32-year-old will miss the Blaugrana’s trip to the southern Madrid suburb on Saturday, but he will undergo further tests on Wednesday to determine the full extent of the injury.
The Catalan giants did not rush Messi back from injury earlier this season – he sat out the first four league games of the season before appearing as a substitute in the matches at both Borussia Dortmund and Granada.
However, Messi had appeared off the pace in those games and whilst he started the victory over Villarreal on Tuesday night, he was replaced at half-time.
“Of course when Messi gets injured, everyone takes notice,” Valverde told reporters after the match. “However, it does not look like a serious injury.”
