Real Madrid suffer Ferland Mendy injury blow

Real Madrid are facing a full-back crisis after Ferland Mendy was diagnosed with a leg muscular injury, as reported by Marca.

The left-back is now set to miss the midweek clash against Osasuna while he is also highly unlikely to feature in the weekend derby against Atletico Madrid.

Madrid’s other left-back Marcelo is also ruled out of both those matches through injury, meaning Nacho Fernandez is likely to be deployed in that position.

Mendy – who impressed in Sunday’s 1-0 win at Sevilla – was diagnosed by the club’s medical staff as suffering a muscular lesion in the adductor of the left leg.

The France international was previously injured in pre-season, shortly after completing his €55m transfer from Lyon, but recovered in time to be available for selection at the start of the campaign.

Brahim Diaz is back in Madrid training with Alvaro Odriozola and Vincius Junior are said to be keen to be given a first-team opportunity.
