Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has backed struggling forward Diego Costa to get back to best.
Costa missed the start of the 2019-20 La Liga season due to a suspension from the previous campaign, and he has also struggled with minor injuries in recent weeks.
Simeone has persevered with the Spanish international, despite not scoring in any of his four appearances so far this campaign, and he is confident the experienced striker will get back on track.
"The numbers only tell one part of the story with Costa.
"He is working very hard for the team, and that is always important.
"I always trust in Costa, and he will get back to his best form again, I have no doubt about that.
"it is a personal challenge for him now, as we have a long season ahead and we need him."
Simeone also confirmed the pair spoke in the summer about his infamous sending off against FC Barcelona last season, which incurred a lengthy ban for the former Chelsea man – adding that the issue was now settled.
Costa has struggled for goals since his return to the club in 2017, scoring five La Liga goals in 32 games.
