Alphonse Areola: Secondary role at Real Madrid complicated…

Alphonse Areola admits it ‘will be complicated’ for him if he does not get regular minutes at Real Madrid this season.

The French goalkeeper has joined Los Blancos on a season-long loan arrangement from Paris Saint-Germain, in a move which saw Keylor Navas permanently move the other way.

Areola is likely to play second fiddle to Madrid number one Thibaut Courtois at Madrid this season, as he did with Gianluigi Buffon in the French capital last campaign.

“I have to do my best, but it is true that without minutes it will be complicated,” Areola told reporters, as cited by Diario AS. “But I will be ready to do my best when I have the chance.

“Right now I don't think about that. Today is a very happy day to be with this great team and in this great club. I will give everything I can to be prepared and if I have the opportunity to play, I will do well. If I don't play, then we will see later.

“It is true that I only have one year of contract, but I have arrived at the stadium and I have seen the history of this great club. There is a hierarchy, it is clear, but I will demonstrate my level day by day.

“Kylian Mbappe? The only thing we have talked about is that he will recover soon from his injury. The future we will see. I will not tell what we have talked about. He has his story and I have mine with Madrid.”
