Sergio Ramos to equal Spain’s record caps tally

Current captain of Spain Sergio Ramos to draw level on matches with former club team mate Iker Casillas against The Faroe Islands tonight.

Standing at 167 appearances for his country, it is a proud record for the former Captain of Spain's World Cup and European Championship tournaments, Iker Casillas.

Tonight, he is scheduled to be joined on that figure by the current Spanish skipper.

Curiously, and as Marca point out, Ramos will celebrate tying the record of his former colleague in the same stadium where he celebrated being awarded his 100th cap – in El Molinón of Gijón, back in 2013.

He is not far away from being the record apppearance holder in international football – with that distinction falling to Egypt's Ahmed Hassan.

Another record he is chasing is to become Spain's all time goalscoring defender. The centre back, from Camas nearby Sevilla, has 21 goals to his name – one away from Daniel Alberto Passarella, who scored 22 goals in 70 games during his career.

The numbers of Sergio Ramos make you sit up and take note. Numbers which team mate Sergio Busquets calls 'amazing' and this coach Robert Moreno adding: "Each day he surprises me more as a person."
