Former Barcelona midfielder Deco believes Joao Felix has chosen the right man to work under by joining Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.
Deco, speaking to EFE and reported by AS, also discussed Neymar’s proposed return to Barcelona and his thoughts on former teammates Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.
When asked about Felix and Atletico Madrid, the ex-Portugal international was complimentary towards Los Colchoneros and Cholo Simeone.
“Atletico have positioned themselves as one of the best teams in the world in recent years. There’s been great investment and a great job done by the club, the President, the directors and a great Coach with the confidence to make changes, and the management,” Deco said.
“Atleti are changing the generation and now are slowly renewing its workforce. Simeone has changed the mentality of the club, of the players, who believe they can win important things.
“It’s a gift for Felix to be able to work with Simeone, to go to such a competitive League, with a Coach who can give him things.”
Though he represented Portugal, Deco was born in Brazil and was asked about bringing players from his homeland to La Liga.
“Like with everything, you have to be calm. It’s something where you have to go little by little, without relying on my name,” he replied.
“When I do knock on the door of a club, it’s with a player who can succeed.”
