Rafinha’s move to Valencia CF is OFF

FC Barcelona midfielder Rafinha Alcantara will not be moving to Valencia CF.

With the La Liga transfer window set to close on September 2nd, the Brazilian international had been heavily linked with a move away form the Camp Nou.

However Valencia CF manager Marcelino confirmed that the deal is now off.

"The club have informed me that the transfer of Rafinha has not been approved.

"I feel like I have been told something (about the transfer) and then it has changed.

"I have respected the decision, but I have confirmed to the board that I believe we need cover in midfield."

The former Villarreal CF coach confirmed he would be looking at potential other last minute deals, ahead of a long season.

"I highlighted this summer the need for an offensive midfielder.

"I considered that to be very important for the team to develop and grow.

"We have rivalry from Athletic Bilbao, Real Betis and Real Sociedad in the push for European football.

"They have all strengthened and will not play in Europe this season.

"I think we are a little bit short to compete in four competitions, so we are still looking at other options."
