Roma to land Atletico Madrid striker Nikola Kalinic

Roma are poised to land Atletico Madrid striker Nikola Kalinic this week with an agreement closed between the clubs.

Diario AS report that the move will be made official when Patrik Schick’s move to RB Leipzig is confirmed, which is expected in the coming days.

Kalinic only joined Atleti from Milan in a €15m deal last summer but has started just seven La Liga games, netting twice.

It had been a second season of frustration for the 31-year-old after an underwhelming stint at the Rossoneri, who signed him for €29m in 2017 from Fiorentina.

Kalinic scored 27 times across two seasons with La Viola but his career has stagnated since with a lack of regular first-team football.

He was even linked with moves away this January with Monaco, Real Betis and Sevilla among the clubs linked to his signature, but a transfer never materialised.

Kalinic, previous of Hajduk Split, Blackburn Rovers and Dnipro, was also sent home from Croatia’s World Cup squad last year after refusing to appear as a substitute.
