Philippe Coutinho to stay at FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho will stay at the club for the 2019-20 season.

The Brazilian international had been linked with an exit from the defending La Liga champions this summer, with some sources claiming he would be used in a player-plus-cash deal to bring Neymar back to the Camp Nou.

This offer was dismissed out of hand by the French club, and now Coutinho looks set to stay in Catalonia, with a deadlock reached over a potential deal with the Ligue 1 champions.

He was also linked with a return to the Premier League, with Arsenal and Tottenham both interested in a season-long loan move.

However, according to reports in Marca this weekend, Ernesto Valverde wants to retain the 27-year old, who only signed for the club in January 2018, in a £105m deal from Liverpool.

Despite reports of a poor season in 2018-19, Valverde did look to utilise Coutinho in the majority of FC Barcelona's games, appearing in 33 of their 38 La Liga matches.
