No Tottenham agreement for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso

Real Betis are holding out on the sale of Giovani Lo Celso with no agreement yet reached with Tottenham Hotspur, say reports in Spain.

It is claimed by ABC de Sevilla that the midfielder, who has returned to first-team training with Betis, has been offered ‘a dizzying economic offer’ by Spurs, but no transfer has yet been agreed.

ABC de Sevilla say the Argentine is happy at the club and in the city of Seville but he has told the club he would like a move to further his sporting career and opportunities.

Spurs have reportedly made a bid in the region of €60m for the highly-rated midfielder, with BBC Sport outlining the details of the bid, although Betis hold a €100m release clause.

The Argentine international had been on a season-long loan deal at Los Verdiblancos from Paris Saint-Germain before joining permanently earlier this year in a €22m deal.

In May, Marca verified a report from Diario de Sevilla that Spurs lodged a €60m bid for the 23-year-old, who netted 16 goals for Betis last season in an impressive individual campaign.

The central midfielder starred for the club last season and was one of the standout players in the Spanish topflight, leading to links with a series of top clubs.

PSG would retain 20% of any future deal for the midfielder but his release clause of €100m gives Betis a strong position in any negotiation.

Despite missing out on European football, their idea is to retain the player for one more season but their hand may be forced by an outlandish fee.
