Saul Niguez believes an injury-free Diego Costa could prove to be Atletico Madrid’s most important signing of the summer.
Diego Simeone’s new-look team has impressed in pre-season and Spain international striker Costa netted a remarkable four goals in a 7-3 friendly victory over Real Madrid, before later being sent-off.
The Brazil-born striker has netted just five La Liga goals since his return to the club from Chelsea in January 2018 but despite a revamp of Atleti’s squad this summer, he has remained and is looking sharp and motivated.
“Diego Costa does not have to prove anything to anyone,” Saul has said, in quotes cited by Marca.
“Last year he had many injuries. He could be our best signing of the summer. He has a lot of significance for us because of his character and because he is infectious in his positivity.
“Against Madrid everything went great but it is just one game in pre-season and we must continue on the path that we are on of hard work and striving to meet our goals.”
