Nikola Kalinic set to leave Atletico Madrid

Striker Nikola Kalinic has not travelled with Atletico Madrid on their pre-season tour to the United States, report Marca.

The striker looks set to become the latest departure from Atleti with the club said to be hopeful of finalising his sale this week.

Kalinic only joined Atleti from Milan in a €15m deal last summer but has started just seven La Liga games, netting twice.

It has been a second season of frustration for the 31-year-old after an underwhelming stint at the Rossoneri, who signed him for €29m in 2017 from Fiorentina.

Kalinic scored 27 times across two seasons with La Viola but his career has stagnated since with a lack of regular first-team football.

He was even linked with moves away this January with Monaco, Real Betis and Sevilla among the clubs linked to his signature, but a transfer never materialised.

Kalinic, previous of Hajduk Split, Blackburn Rovers and Dnipro, was also sent home from Croatia’s World Cup last squad after refusing to appear as a substitute.

Atleti have signed forwards Joao Felix and Ivan Saponjic this summer while Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata are also competing for first-team spots.
