Official: Denis Cheryshev signs permanent Valencia deal

Valencia have completed the permanent signing of Denis Cheryshev from Villarreal in a deal initially worth €6m, it has been confirmed.

The Russian international was on a season-long loan deal at the Mestalla and the now permanent transfer includes an extra €1m in add-ons.

The midfielder has been recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury and that may have been part of Villarreal’s acceptance of such a bid.

Marca detail how the Russian has penned a three-year contract at the Mestalla and follows two previous loan spells, with an €80m release clause included.

Cheryshev sustained the knee injury against Real Betis in April and missed Valencia’s crucial run-in including the Europa League semi-finals and Copa del Rey showpiece against Barcelona.

The former Real Madrid player has been in fine form for Los Che since his summer loan, netting four goals in 41 first-team appearances.

However, Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side managed to secure a top four spot whilst later defeating the Blaugrana in the Copa final to secure a memorable season in their centenary year, while Cheryshev is likely to continue.

Valencia are also said to be monitoring a deal for Barcelona midfielder Rafinha Alcantara this summer.
