Arsenal to rival Manchester United with Samuel Umtiti bid

Arsenal are the latest club to show interest in FC Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti, ahead of the 2019-20 season.

The Gunners are actively looking to strengthen their defence, and had been linked with fellow La Liga defenders Dakoman Djene and Mario Hermoso, however according to reports in UK newspaper the Daily Mail, they are now looking at Umtiti.

The French international endured an injury disrupted 2018-19 campaign, with Clement Lenglet taking his place in the Catalan side's defence, alongside Gerard Pique.

That lack of game time for the former Lyon centre back has led to reported interest from both Unai Emery's side, and Premier League rivals Manchester United – who were linked with him before he moved to Spain in 2016.

The main stumbling block at the moment appears to be FC Barcelona's asking price of €54m, with Umtiti having four more years left on his contract at the Camp Nou.

United would be willing to pay that, as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to rebuild his squad, however the Gunners are reported to only be willing to pay €45m.
