Real Betis goalkeeper Pau Lopez set for Roma

Roma are set to sign Real Betis goalkeeper and Spain international Pau Lopez in a deal in the region of €18m, report El Confidencial.

Last month, Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio, as cited by Marca, claimed that the Italian club have moved for the shot-stopper.

The 24-year-old made 35 first-team appearances for Los Verdiblancos last season having joined on a free transfer from Espanyol last summer.

The report also claims that in addition to the fees paid directly to Betis, Roma will transfer the 50% ownership of Paraguayan striker Antonio Sanabria – currently on loan at Genoa from Betis, who own the remaining 50%.

Lopez has emerged as one of the best goalkeepers in Spain’s top-flight and indeed is third choice at international level behind England-based Kepa Arrizabalaga and David De Gea.

The report claims that Betis have asked Real Madrid over a possible loan deal for Andriy Lunin to replace Lopez, while Joel Robles remains on their books.

Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Canales and Junior Firpo are other Betis stars whose future is unclear.
