Fabian Ruiz has described winning the European Under-21 Championships with Spain ‘a dream’ and praised the level of his side’s performance.
The Napoli midfielder, formerly of Real Betis, was named Player of the Tournament and netted in the 2-1 final victory over Germany on Sunday.
“You cannot ask for more, to win this title is a dream and we deserved it,” Fabian told reporters, as cited by Marca.
“Everything started against us in the championship because we lost to Italy and things became very difficult.
“But this team has fought hard and shown both heart and courage, work has been the key , everyone has given their everything, we have not given in and that has been our best virtue.
“In each match we have improved, from the beginning we have improved and we are all winners.
“Now it's time to celebrate the triumph, then rest with family and friends, spend a relaxed summer after a hard year with many matches.
“I remember all those who came to see me, my family and all the Spaniards who they have helped us since the first game.”
