Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez to join Celta Vigo, not Valencia

Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez is set to join Celta Vigo rather than Valencia this summer, according to a report in Marca.

It follows reports which claimed that the player is being offered a higher salary by Celta but his wish is to be reunited with Coach Marcelino Garcia Toral at the Mestalla.

Denis – who worked under current Valencia boss Marcelino at Villarreal – was loaned to Arsenal in January but endured an underwhelming stint in North London which was undermined by injuries and a failure to settle in the British capital.

However, his future ‘has undergone a significant change’ with his and Valencia’s negotiations drifting further apart and creating the opening for the Galician club to pounce for the player.

Los Che have already signed goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen from Barcelona and their reported additions of Rafinha Alcantara and Denis Cheryshev have meant sufficient funds were not directed towards Suarez’s wages.

It is said that Celta have offered €10m for the player and he is now set to return to the club where he began his career eight years ago before joining Manchester City.
